Freeman Etudes by John Cage is considered an extremely difficult work for violin, with some considering it impossible to perform. The work demands not only speed and agility but also the ability to instantly switch from loud to very quiet playing. The etudes also feature various techniques such as different types of martelatto and pizzicato. The recording features Irvine Arditti on violin and was recorded in 1990 at Wesleyan University.
